Maritime tourism space

Abstract: The aim of this article is to provide a description of the processes which take place within offshore and coastal areas treated as contemporary tourism space. The article presents the evolution of maritime space towards the formation of maritime tourism space. It also offers a classification of maritime tourism space types according to types of sailing tourism (investigated on a global scale). The analysis has covered the main geographical-structural conditions and forms of adaptation (with particular … Show more

“…For at least several decades, touristic space has been of interest to geographers of tourism and scholars with other academic backgrounds concerned with spatial aspects of tourism (regional economists, country planners and developers, to name only a few). Specifically, Polish and French (francophone) academicians have made attempts at elaborating theoretical foundations of touristic space (the term was used with the Polish adjective turystyczny and French touristique) -mostly from a perspective related to geography (inter alia Butowski 2012Butowski , 2014aCazelais, Naderu, Beaudet 2000;Drzewiecki 1992;Gołembski 2002;Husbands 1983;Kowalczyk 2014;Liszewski 1995;Meyer 2004;Miossec 1976Miossec , 1977Oppermann 1993;Warszyńska 1986;Warszyńska, Jackowski 1978;Więckowski 2014;Włodarczyk 2009Włodarczyk , 2011Włodarczyk , 2014.…”

“…Dotyczy to zwłaszcza publikacji zawierających wyniki badań nad turystyką żeglarską.

“…In turn, only a minority of works has dealt with more general issues connected with problems which may be encountered in many different coastal and offshore destinations. Among such publications, one can note the following: Lee's (2001) analysis of the determinants of recreational boater expenditures on trips; Oram's (2007) and Marušić et al's (2008) studies on the positive and negative impacts of yachting tourism; a study devoted to the genetic, structural and functional aspects of maritime tourism space, published by Butowski (2014); and a simulation of yacht movements in enclosed bays by means of computer modelling (Genç, 2015). The environmental impacts of yachting tourism are among the most controversial.…”
