Marinobacter salarius sp. nov. and Marinobacter similis sp. nov., Isolated from Sea Water

Abstract: Two non-pigmented, motile, Gram-negative marine bacteria designated R9SW1T and A3d10T were isolated from sea water samples collected from Chazhma Bay, Gulf of Peter the Great, Sea of Japan, Pacific Ocean, Russia and St. Kilda Beach, Port Phillip Bay, the Tasman Sea, Pacific Ocean, respectively. Both organisms were found to grow between 4°C and 40°C, between pH 6 to 9, and are moderately halophilic, tolerating up to 20% (w/v) NaCl. Both strains were found to be able to degrade Tween 40 and 80, but only strain R… Show more

“…16S rRNA genes were amplified by PCR using a universal bacterial primer set 27F (5¢-AGAGTTTGATCMTGGCTCAG-3¢) and 1492R (5¢-TACGGYTACCTTGTTACGACTT-3¢) [13], and rpoD and secA genes were amplified using primers previously described (see [14,15]). Purified PCR products were sequenced by Macrogen using primers 27F, 338F, 786R and 1492R [13].…”

“…The two type strains M. sediminum R65 T (DSM 27079) and M. similis A3d10 T (DSM 15400) were selected as reference strains for comparison with the novel strains based on 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities and phylogenetic positions, and were obtained from the German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ). Unless stated otherwise, all reference strains were grown on MA or marine broth (MB) medium under optimal culture conditions [15,23].…”

“…A number of fully sequenced Marinobacter genomes is already available in public databases (e.g. Gauthier et al 1992, Ng et al, 2014, Song et al 2013. Thus a deeper bioinformatic analysis with focus on heavy metal resistance associated genes and gene clusters, including CzcCBA efflux pumps, will therefore be a future project.…”

“…Although the draft genome sequence was used to analyse the genotype to phenotype characteristic, significant correlation was also observed between the genotype to phenotype comparative analysis of phenotypic features retrieved from in vitro tests and from the draft genomes sequences in silico (Supplementary Table S1). However, there were some exceptions, maybe some repressor genes, regulatory proteins and global regulators prevent the expression of related genes under certain conditions, which was reported in some Vibrio species (Amaral et al 2014) and Marinobacter species (Ng et al 2014). Other characteristics are given in the species description (Table 1).…”
