Marine diesel engine common rail injectors monitoring with vibration parameters

Abstract: The paper presents a results of vibration tests of common rail injectors operating in diesel engines. The most common methods of diagnosing common rail injectors (CR) as well as the most common damage of injectors of this type have been described. The results and analyzes of tests obtained during measurements on two different test stands were presented. Obtained results allowed for the preliminary determination of diagnostically sensitive parameters, which may allow the development of the injector diagnostics … Show more

“…As mentioned earlier, the deterioration of the technical condition of this installation always leads to the deterioration of the engine's operating parameters, including an increase in exhaust gas toxicity. In connection with the above, intensive research on possibilities for the early detection of fuel injector failures in diesel engines, including marine engines, is conducted in many centers in Poland and worldwide [2,[12][13][14][18][19][20][21]. For example, in [2], common rail fuel injectors were tested.…”

“…Despite the variety of diagnostic methods, more and more often directed at conducting measurements under the conditions of real operation on the engine, the basis of modern research laboratories are test benches. They enable a comprehensive assessment of common rail fuel injectors, indicating at the same time areas of their incorrect operation [10]. Therefore, improving test procedures seems to be the most reasonable, taking into account technical criteria (accuracy, repeatability, durability), as well as economic ones (cost, efficiency, labour consumption).…”

“…), -lack of immediate reaction of technical personnel to minor primary damage of structural elements, aff ecting the quality of the fuel system operation, -repeated engine starts, frequent changes of its load and longlasting work at low loads, -chemical corrosion caused by the aggressive infl uence of the factors contained in fuel (sulphur and vanadium), especially during long engine stoppages, -erosive eff ect of solid particles contained in the fuel, as well as cavitation erosion of fl ow channels, -thermal eff ect of the heated engine on precise dosing elements. Many scientists devote their attention to issues related to the diagnostics of diesel engine injectors [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,12,14,15,16,17]. Currently, the most eff ective way to assess the technical condition of injectors is their disassembly and testing on the dedicated test benches [14].…”
