“…(21,25) Laslett et al (22) suggest that drug users may engage in sex work as a way to either purchase drugs or exchange services for drugs, while some sex workers may come to use hard drugs as means to cope with social problems. The study results of Coleman-Cowger et al (23) conform to our study (Table 2), where resident CSWs are seen buying and selling hard drugs and making indiscriminate use of it. The floating and relocation pattern exhibited by resident sex workers is thought to be restricted to the street sex workers (25) alone due to the nature of their business (moving from one part of the city to another searching for male clients).…”

(19) The use of hard drugs amounts to the act of taking banned substances like marijuana (23,24) and heroin (24,25) . Drinking and smoking in this study were also defined as oral consumption of alcohol either socially, indiscriminately or regularly (26) and the habit of smoking cigarettes in like manner (23) to either ease tension or surpass depression.…”

“…Half of current smokers were concurrently using cannabis and almost twothirds were using some illicit drug. This is much higher than has been reported in previous studies (Coleman-Cowger et al 2017; Mark et al 2016), which may be due to the specific patient population studied or because of increased detection in our study due to biologic screening as opposed to self-report. Additionally, the high rates of cannabis use may be a result of emerging evidence that the spreading liberalization of cannabis policies across the US may result in increasing acceptance or tolerance of cannabis use more generally, and specifically in pregnancy (Crume et al 2018; Keyes et al 2016).…”

“…Cannabis is the most commonly used illicit drug among women of reproductive age 1 . It is also the most commonly used illicit drug used among pregnant women 2 in the United States, with prevalence rates ranging from 3-4% 3 and higher rates among pregnant adolescents 4 . Given the recent legalization of cannabis in many states, the perception that cannabis is safe to consume during pregnancy 5 , and the reported intention of use among pregnant women despite knowledge of potential risks 6 , the availability and use of cannabis among pregnant women is likely to increase.…”
