Marcadores tumorais no câncer colorretal

Abstract: Colorectal cancer is a clinical entity of a persistent relevance in clinical practice and its early diagnosis is a determinant factor to obtain better therapeutic results. Tumor markers are helpful means for a better approach to individuals with such neoplasm. In the present review, the authors analyze the phases in which surgical-clinical treatment markers must be used: diagnosis, determination of tumor stage, establishment of prognosis and detection of recurrence. Current and future markers and the consensus… Show more

“…Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is one of the most extensively studied tumor markers. Despite its low sensitivity for early-stage colorectal cancer (between 20% and 40%), CEA is still considered to be a standard serum tumor marker for following up colorectal cancer patients, with sensitivity greater than 90% for detecting recurrences (6) .…”

“…In 2013 in Serbia the estimated new cases of colorectal cancer were 3900, making it the second most frequent malignant tumor in the country (2). The expression of E-cadherin, carcinoembryonic antigen (mCEA), cyclin B1, erythropoietin (EPO), EPO receptor (EPOR), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) indicate the presence, extent, and response to therapy of this neoplasm and define the survival period (3,4). mCEA is one of the most extensively studied tumor markers in colon cancers.…”

“…mCEA is one of the most extensively studied tumor markers in colon cancers. During the early stage of colorectal cancer mCEA has a low sensitivity and expression; it becomes more prominent during the process of tumor development (4). E-cadherin belongs to a family of transmembrane glycoproteins involved in the mediation of calciumdependent cell-cell adhesion in epithelial tissues (5).…”

“…In the attempts to establish early diagnosis and better treatment, tumor markers are noticed, which are molecular products secreted by the neoplastic tissue, detectable in cells and organic fluids that are able to indicate the presence, extension, response to treatment and presence of neoplasm recurrence 10 . The quantification of free DNA in the peripheral blood aims to find a way to relate it to the clinical status of patients with cancer, tumor aggressiveness, and especially a way to early detect the appearance of the first neoplastic cells, or in case of recurrence.…”
