Bojonegoro is a regency in Indonesia located downstream of the Bengawan Solo River, a flood-prone area that caused crop damage and failure. The farmers need appropriate technology as an adaptation to reduce the loss of crop failure. Therefore, this study aims to determine the potential of floating rice cultivation as a solution for reducing crop failure. The experiment was arranged in Randomized Complete Block Design with two factors, namely planting media (soil:organic fertilizer (1:1) (M1); soil:rice husk (1:1) (M2); soil:organic fertilizer:rice husk (1:1:1) (M3)), and plant spacing (15 cm x 15 cm (J1); 20 cm x 20 cm (J2); 25 cm x 25 cm (J3)). Each unit treatment was replicated 3 times. The results showed M2J3 gave the best outcome on plant height of 94.3 cm, the tillers number of 21.7, and produced the highest rice yield of 14.16 tons ha -1 . This treatment provides optimal soil conditions, high cation exchange capacity (CEC) of 26.6 cmol (+) kg -1 , phosphorus availability (Av-P) 48.5 ppm, and potassium availability 0.9 ppm. The planting media compositions significantly affected soil cation exchange capacity, soil phosphorus availability, plant height, tillers number, and rice yield. The yield on floating rice cultivation was approximately similar when compared to the local farmer's fields. Floating rice cultivation can be used as a solution to reduce crop failure in flood-prone areas in Bojonegoro.

Since the pro-investment program was implemented in 2011, Wonogiri District including Ngadirojo Sub-district has experienced a shift in the economic sector from agriculture to industry, and land conversion has occurred. This research aims to determine the rate of land conversion in the Ngadirojo Subdistrict and its effect on land capability class. The rate of conversion is determined based on the shrinkage of land use area from 2009 to 2020. The land unit for observing the land capability class is determined by overlaying the land use change map with the soil type map. Observation of land capability class is carried out on agricultural land that is experiencing conversion. As comparison data, land capability classes were observed at points that did not experience conversion. Land use change in the Ngadirojo Sub-district in 2009-2020 covering an area of 1,308.53 ha (14.03%) with a rate of conversion of agricultural land to non-agricultural areas of 264 ha (24 ha year -1 ). Changes in land use have a very significant effect on the land capability class. Land use causes soil permeability to be slower and degrades land capability. The recommended land management efforts in the research area are the addition of organic matter to soil properties and agroforestry system implementation.

Rice farming in Madiun Regency implements three different management systems, that is organic, semi-organic, and conventional. The different implementation of these rice field management systems impacts soil fertility index and rice productivity. This purpose of this research was to know the effect of rice field management systems on soil fertility index and rice productivity in the Madiun Regency. The research uses an explorative descriptive qualitative method with a survey approach. Soil samples were taken using a random sampling method and 3 types of soil management systems (conventional, semi-organic and organic), and rice production samples were taken using an estimation method. The research results show that the soil fertility index ranges from 0.78 to 0.82, which is high. The highest soil fertility index is in the semi-organic management system and the lowest is in the organic management. The management system of semi-organic gave a response to the highest rice production of 6.89 tons/ha. Management system of semi-organic is a better management for increasing and maintaining soil fertility and crop production than conventional or organic. Farming activities results show that organic management systems increase the highest income, increasing 115.58% and 53.30% in semi-organic compared to conventional. The rice field management system has the effect of increasing the worm population density with the highest in the organic system, namely 4.19 individuals m-2. The Pontoscolex worm type dominates the three management systems. There is a correlation between organic matter content and earthworms.
