Having six official religions and numerous ethnic-based religions, Indonesia is prone to interfaith conflicts. There have been several interfaith conflicts recorded, but many left unnoticed. This leads to the importance of promoting interfaith communication, in which mass media inevitably play a major role. This research aims to reveal the portrayal of interfaith communication in Indonesia on major online media. There has been a growing body of research on interfaith dialogue, but this study seeks to view it from a wider perspective of communication and put the study in the context of the pandemic, a situation in which people rely more on mediated communication. Practically, this research might contribute to building an initial model of interfaith communication in Indonesia. Theoretically, this study expects to contribute to the development of peace journalism by assessing its premises in the context of interfaith relations. The study uses qualitative content analysis, revealing the theme of news about interfaith encounters. The result shows that online media in Indonesia performed peace journalism by regularly portraying interfaith communications in the aspect of cooperation, but lacking in the portrayal of alternative views and positive experience. This research implicates the need for media to intensify and deepen the coverage of interfaith reporting to further promote the discourse of interfaith harmony.

“…Our hope in developing and elaborating on these principles is to contribute to thinking about the potential value of a framework (i.e., the ESJ framework) that could guide future sociological analyses of media coverage of sport-related environmental issues as well as the practice of covering sport-related environmental issues-all the while acknowledging existing tensions surrounding the use of normative and (in some respects) prescriptive frameworks for the purposes of advocating for particular kinds of journalism (Doll & Moy, 2022). As a way of clarifying what ESJ "looks like" and further exploring some benefits and challenges of adopting the approach, we offer illustrative examples of ESJ that are drawn from our research into mainstream media coverage of environmental controversies related to two recent sport mega-events: (a) polluted harbor water that was used for events held as part of the 2016 Rio Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games and (b) the razing of an ancient forest for a ski facility for the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (Yoon & Wilson, 2019).…”

This article introduces/rationalizes an attempt to conceptualize “environmental sports journalism (ESJ).” ESJ refers to a set of principles for analyzing and/or reporting on media coverage of sport-related environmental issues—principles intended to support/promote dialogue and nuanced thinking about these issues and about how sports journalism might contribute to environmentally friendly and just outcomes. To clarify features of ESJ and explore benefits/challenges of ESJ, we include illustrative examples of ESJ from media coverage of: (a) polluted harbor water used for the 2016 Rio Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games and (b) the razing of an ancient forest for a ski facility for the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. We conclude with reflections on the potential/limits of ESJ and suggestions for work on sport, journalism, and environmental issues.

Journalism and activism: A Portuguese reporter on the Russian side of the war in Ukraine Journalisme et activisme : un reporter portugais du côté russe de la guerre en UkraineLuís M. Loureiro NOTA DO EDITORO presente artigo propõe um pensamento do ato jornalístico como teoria de ação, capaz de responder a uma analítica das interseções entre ativismo e jornalismo, ao decompor as dimensões actanciais individuais e coletivas do jornalismo, e as interações endógenas e exógenas que configuram e condicionam a produção jornalística. O caso de Bruno Amaral de Carvalho, jornalista freelancer português que esteve, em 2022, mais de meio ano em trabalho do lado russo da guerra da Ucrânia, é tratado a partir de uma análise crítica do discurso produzido pelo repórter, nesse período, na rede Facebook, e de uma amostra de trabalhos publicados no site da CNN Portugal. Pesquisa-se, a partir do confronto teórico com o modelo de jornalismo de paz (Galtung, 2003) e com a visibilidade como conceito político (Brighenti, 2007), a viabilidade ou inviabilidade de agência individual de um ato jornalístico capaz de ultrapassar invisibilidades de causas e vítimas, e de, assim, contribuir para a emergência de processos de pacificação.
