Mapping Net Blotch Resistance in ‘Nomini’ and CIho 2291 Barley

Abstract: Net blotch (Pyrenophora teres) is one of the most devastating diseases of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) worldwide. Identification of diagnostic molecular markers associated with genes and quantitative trait loci (QTL) for net blotch resistance will facilitate pyramiding of independent genes. Linkage mapping was used to identify chromosomal locations of the independent, dominant genes conditioning net blotch resistance in the winter barley ‘Nomini’ (PI 566929) and spring barley CIho 2291. The F2 populations of 23… Show more

“…Positive and negative signs indicate a trait-increasing and trait-decreasing effect of the wild allele compared to the Barke control allele, respectively. g Previously reported net blotch resistance QTL/genes located within the range of LD decay around the QTL marker with DR >50% identified in this study ( 1 reviewed in [ 4 ], 2 [ 17 ], 3 [ 18 ], 4 [ 25 ], 5 [ 19 ], 6 [ 26 ], 7 [ 21 ], 8 [ 70 ] *for QTL defining the same position see [ 4 , 20 , 21 ]). …”

“…Helminthosporium sativum , teleomorph Cochliobolus sativus ) is one of the destructive fungal diseases that affects wheat and several other small grains worldwide ( Dubin and Rajaram, 1996 ; Duveiller and Dubin, 2002 ; Joshi and Chand, 2002 ; Sharma et al, 2007b ; Singh and Singh, 2007 ; Gurung et al, 2009 ; Chowdhury et al, 2013 ). It has a wide range of hosts within wild and cultivated Poaceae species ( Kumar et al, 2002 ; Pandey et al, 2005 ; O’Boyle et al, 2014 ). In susceptible lines, SB symptoms are characterized by small, dark brown lesions that extend 1–2 mm long without chlorotic margins during initial infection ( Chand et al, 2003 ).…”
