Mapping Imprecision: How to Geocode Data from Inaccurate Historic Maps

Abstract: This paper aims to present and discuss the method of geocoding historical place names from historic maps that cannot be georeferenced in the GIS environment. This concerns especially maps drawn in the early modern period, i.e., before the common use of precise topographic surveys.
