Mapping authors in intellectual space: A technical overview

This article presents a novel user‐oriented interface for generalised informetric analysis and demonstrates how informetric calculations can easily and declaratively be specified through advanced data modelling techniques. The interface is declarative and at a high level. Therefore it is easy to use, flexible and extensible. It enables end users to perform basic informetric ad hoc calculations easily and often with much less effort than in contemporary online retrieval systems. It also provides several fruitful generalisations of typical informetric measurements like impact factors. These are based on substituting traditional foci of analysis, for instance journals, by other object types, such as authors, organisations or countries. In the interface, bibliographic data are modelled as complex objects (non‐first normal form relations) and terminological and citation networks involving transitive relationships are modelled as binary relations for deductive processing. The interface is flexible, because it makes it easy to switch focus between various object types for informetric calculations, e.g. from authors to institutions. Moreover, it is demonstrated that all informetric data can easily be broken down by criteria that foster advanced analysis, e.g. by years or content‐bearing attributes. Such modelling allows flexible data aggregation along many dimensions. These salient features emerge from the query interface‘s general data restructuring and aggregation capabilities combined with transitive processing capabilities. The features are illustrated by means of sample queries and results in the article.

Jiao, Cui, Wang, and Xu (2014) developed a ranking of overseas Chines strategy scholars in terms of their contributions to the strategy research. Such a ranking is interesting not only because it provides a clear picture of the academic contributions of overseas Chinese scholars, but also because it can help the universities and scholars in mainland China to develop collaborative ties with overseas Chinese scholars in a more targeted manner.To complement and extend the work by Jiao et al. (2014), we have adopted a different, but more systematic approach to ranking the overseas Chinese strategy scholars. First, we have generated the list of overseas Chines strategy scholars by checking all of their publications in eight academic journals that are most relevant to the domain of strategy or strategic management. Though this approach is more timeconsuming, it will not miss any potentially important scholars in the analysis. Second, we have focused on the strategy-relevant articles published in the eight academic journals by the overseas Chinese scholars. Abstract-To explore the intellectual structure of nursing leadership research in the last decade, the most crucial publications, most influential scholars, as well as the correlations among the publications of these scholars were identified. In this study, bibliometric techniques (citation analysis and cocitation analysis) were used to investigate the intellectual pillars of nursing leadership literature. By analyzing 92 394 citations of 1317 articles regarding nursing leadership published from 2003 to 2012 obtained from the Science Citation Index and Social Sciences Citation Index databases, a knowledge network of nursing leadership studies was mapped. The mapping results can be used to help identify the direction of nursing leadership research and provide a valuable tool for researchers to access the literature in this field.
