Narrative financial therapy is one of the first attempts to develop an integrated theoretical approach to financial therapy that can be used by practitioners from multiple disciplines. The presented approach integrates the components of the six-step financial planning process with components of empirically-supported therapeutic methods. This integration provides the foundation for a manualized approach to financial therapy, shaped by the writings of narrative theorists and select cognitive-behavioral interventions that can be used both by mental health and financial professionals.

(univeRsidad de buenos aiRes (aRgentina); univeRsidad de cóRdova (esPaña) (Recibido el 2/11/2011/, acePtado el 15/12/2011) RESUMENEl presente trabajo realiza una revisión sobre el movimiento de Tratamientos con Apoyo Empírico señalando sus principales ventajas e inconvenientes y analizando algunas propuestas para su mejora. En la primera parte del artículo, se presenta una introducción y perspectiva histórica sobre el tema. Posteriormente, desarrollamos las principales dificultades: descoordinación entre el ámbito investigador y el aplicado, su función prescriptiva, limitaciones en el uso de los diagnósticos de las principales clasificaciones internacionales, problemas de generalización y manualización de guías de tratamiento y divergencias entre los niveles de evidencia. Finalmente, se comentan las principales propuestas para superar estas limitaciones y mejorar el estudio de los tratamientos psicológicos eficaces, no solo para los trastornos mentales sino también para problemas psicológicos no clínicos. Palabras Clave: Tratamientos con Apoyo Empírico, psicología basada en la evidencia, psicología científica, psicología clínica ABSTRACTIn this paper we carry out a review about the Empirically Supported Treatment movement, pointing out its principal advantages and disadvantages and analyzing improvement proposals.In the first part of the article we introduce the topic, providing a historical perspective. Secondly, we focus on our main concerns: lack of coordination between research and its applications in the field, limitations when using the international classifications of mental disorders, standardization of treatment guidelines and differences between levels of evidence. Finally, the main proposals to overcome these limitations are discussed in order to improve the study of efficient psychological treatments of both mental and nonclinical psychological problems.

Samenvatting Onlangs is het protocol 'cognitievegedragstherapie bij het chronisch vermoeidheidssyndroom' (CVS) verschenen. Met een eerdere versie van dit protocol is door dertien psychotherapeuten ervaring opgedaan in het kader van wetenschappelijk onderzoek. Deze psychotherapeuten behandelden met dit protocol 82 patie¨nten met CVS. Uit de resultaten van dit onderzoek is gebleken dat de behandeling effectief is. Daarom is het belangrijk ook zicht te krijgen op de mogelijkheden de uitvoering van de behandeling over te dragen aan perifere behandelaars. De psychotherapeuten in dit onderzoek waren uitgebreid getraind en gesuperviseerd. Maar hebben zij ook gedaan wat zij verondersteld werden te doen? En wat vonden zij van de uitvoerbaarheid van deze protocollaire vorm van cognitieve-gedragstherapie voor CVS? Om hier antwoord op te krijgen, is aan het eind van eerdergenoemd onderzoek aan de dertien psychotherapeuten die de behandelingen uitvoerden, een vragenlijst voorgelegd. Door analyse van audio-opnamen van de sessies is nagegaan in hoeverre de therapeuten de verschillende aspecten van de behandeling ook volgens protocol hebben uitgevoerd. In 89 procent van de sessies bleek dat in voldoende mate te zijn gebeurd. Uit de vragenlijst bleek dat de psychotherapeuten vonden dat CVS-patië nten moeilijker te behandelen zijn dan patie¨n-ten met psychische klachten en patie¨nten met andere lichamelijke klachten. Het moeilijkste vond men het integreren van individuele problemen in de behandeling, het gebrek aan vertrouwen in de behandeling van de patie¨nt en het omgaan met onvoldoende motivatie. Met name voor deze aspecten lijkt, naast het ter beschikking stellen van het protocol, extra training noodzakelijk. Het protocol zal zo geschreven moeten zijn dat de therapeut het protocol kan individualiseren en handreikingen krijgt met betrekking tot het motiveren van de patie¨nten. InleidingProtocollen voor psychotherapie, ten behoeve van zowel onderzoek als opleiding en praktijk, bestaan al ruim 25 jaar (Luborsky & De Rubeis, 1984). Door de American Psychological Association (APA) is in 1993 een taakgroep in het leven geroepen om te adviseren over het gebruik van empirisch gevalideerde behandelingen in de klinische praktijk en in de opleiding van psychotherapeuten. Naar aanleiding van het rapport van deze taakgroep, de Task Force on Promotion and Dissemination of Psychological Procedures (1995) , is veel discussie op gang gekomen over de invoering van op wetenschappelijk onderzoek gebaseerde protocollaire behandelingen in de praktijk.Veel van de discussies waren gericht op de sterke en zwakke kanten van evidence-based treatments en de verschillen tussen onderzoek en praktijk (Addis,
