Mann‐Whitney U Test

Abstract: The Mann‐Whitney U test, which is also known as the Wilcoxon rank sum test, tests for differences between two groups on a single, ordinal variable with no specific distribution (Mann & Whitney, 1947; Wilcoxon, 1945). In contrast, the independent samples t‐test, which is also a test of two groups, requires the single variable to be measured at the interval or ratio level, rather than the ordinal level, and to be normally distributed. We accordingly refer to the Mann‐Whitney U test as the nonparametric versi… Show more

“…A Mann-Whitney test was used to analyze differences in levels of self-efficacy and cultural competence of traditional and IPE curricula groups [Mann & Whitney, 1947;McKnight & Najab, 2010]. Cultural competence scores for traditional and IPE groups were assessed using a 2x2 design and chi-square analysis.…”

“…The in silico knock-in and knock-out mutation were generated keeping the value of the target molecule as constitutively 'ON' or 'OFF' throughout the simulation by using the built-in library function 'boolean2.modify_states' in the BooleanNet-1.2.4 software (Albert et al 2008). To analyse the significant variations (p<0.05) in the temporal protein expression patterns observed in mutated scenario with respect to the normal scenario, Mann Whitney U Test was performed and important proteins with significant variations are extracted (McKnight and Najab 2010). Through this study, we can identify the proteins, which are being regulated upon certain perturbations, and can simultaneously identify the routes along which the effect of that perturbed signal is processed.…”
