Manifestation of helicity in one-dimensional iodobismuthate

Abstract: We report here, the first example of an inorganic-organic hybrid material incorporating a helical iodobismuthate [BiI4]∞ templated by 2,6-diisopropylanilinium cations. The realisation of the helical iodobismuthate opens up the possibility of a wide range of physical properties among hybrid materials.

“…To allow an easy comparison, we discuss the elemental combination Bi/ Cu/I in the following, since both forms were available as single crystals in this case. 65 Cu−I distances of 2.665−2.727 Å are similar to those found in [Cu 2 I 2 (PPh 3 ) 3 ] (2.50−2.82 Å). 44 In contrast, the overall coordination environment of Bi shows a large degree of distortion with respect to the expected octahedral one, as evidenced by trans I−Bi−I angles of 152−157°.…”

“…The structure of 1 is in contrast with the recently reported 1D helical polymeric BiI 4 that is charge‐balanced by a 2,6‐diisopropylanilinium cation . Figure represents the unit cells of 1 and of polymeric [2,6‐diisopropylanilinium][BiI 4 ], which clearly shows that the arrangements of the cations (Figure ) and neighbouring anionic halobismuthate chains are completely different.…”

“…We have recently been exploring the utility of the 2,6‐diisopropylanilinium cation in halobismuthate chemistry. It was demonstrated to stabilise the first 1D helical iodobismuthate chain [BiI 4 ] . The presence of bulky isopropyl groups on the aromatic ring of the cation was thought to stabilise the helical [BiI 4 ] structure.…”

“…Lumbar traction is the first choice for nonsurgical treatment of lumbar disc herniation. Its mechanism is that the separation of mechanical forces changes the relative position of the center of the middle disc and the back of the fiber and changes the interface between the middle disc and the nerve so as to reduce the nerve pressure [11]. In recent years, clinical three-dimensional mechanical attachment, such as spinal cord vibration sliding, utilizes body weight traction and works with transverse wavelengths to fully extend the spine.…”
