Mangiferin-Enriched Mn–Hydroxyapatite Coupled with β-TCP Scaffolds Simultaneously Exhibit Osteogenicity and Anti-Bacterial Efficacy

Abstract: Biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) containing β-tricalcium phosphate and manganese (Mn)-substituted hydroxyapatite (HAP) was synthesized. Biomedical scaffolds were prepared using this synthesized powder on a sacrificial polyurethane sponge template after the incorporation of mangiferin (MAN). Mn was substituted at a concentration of 5% and 10% in HAP to examine the efficacy of Mn at various concentrations. The phase analysis of the as-formed BCP scaffold was carried out by X-ray diffraction analysis, while the q… Show more

“…This is consistent with the reports by others showing that mangiferin positively regulates osteoblast differentiation and suppresses osteoclastogenesis, bone resorption, and RANKL-induced activation of NF-κB and ERK [24,61]. It has been shown that MAG promotes the osteogenic differentiation of stem cells [62,63] and promotes the regeneration of alveolar bone defects [64,65]. Another study showed that CpG ODN increased the early ALP activity of mesenchymal stem cells fourfold without affecting osteoclast formation [66].…”
