Manganese Recovering From Alkaline Spent Batteries by Ammonium Peroxodisulfate

Abstract: The process of manganese removal from spent battery leaching solutions, with ammonium peroxodisulfate, prior to recovery of zinc by electrolysis is presented. The experiments were carried out according to a 2 3 full factorial design considering ammonium peroxodisulfate concentration, temperature and pH as factors investigated. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) was carried out on the precipitation yields of Mn and Zn after 30 min, 1h, 2h and 3h of reaction. Optimal conditions for obtaining Mn as MnO 2 have been … Show more

“…MnO 2 is economically and commercially-important with applications in different fields, such as battery industry, catalysis, water treatment plants, steel industry and chemicals. In this study, we show how to recover manganese as MnO 2 from consumed dry cell using a hydrometallurgical process, without altering the concentration of zinc in solutions that can be recovered by precipitation or electro winning [4]. The aim of this work is to study the applicability of electrochemical and photocatalytic enactment of MnO 2 using a hydrometallurgical process and the catalytic action of MnO 2 is due to its high efficiency in the reduction/oxidation cycles [1].…”

“…Thus, the assembly of consumed alkaline batteries and its unwanted waste is enlarged dramatically day by day within the environment. Zinc metal oxidized to ZnO and MnO2 reduced to Mn2O3 once being discharged and these products were used for present study [24,25]. The main objective of this study was to search the recovery and leaching of Zn and Mn from discarded alkaline batteries and cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy studies of MnO2 obtained from leach solutions.…”
