“…The presence of Mn in all the studied localities was attributed to crustal sources. Moreover, Mn is one of the most abundant trace elements in atmospheric waters [104]. However, Mn and As occurred in the moderate enrichment class in all the studied regions, i.e., mainly from the sedimentary terrain and dust particles.…”

“…Manganese concentrations were analyzed by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy using a Perkin-Elmer 5100 PC atomic absorption spectrometer equipped with a 5100 ZL Zeeman furnace module and AS 70 autosampler (dl 2 nM, rsd 3%). Dissolved Mn (0.05 μm filter) was operationally defined as Mn(II) . A certified standard with 61.3 ± 2 nM Mn (National Research Council Canada SLRS-4) was diluted by half and analyzed every time samples were run.…”

“…Dissolved Mn (0.05 μm filter) was operationally defined as Mn(II). 24 A certified standard with 61.3 ± 2 nM Mn (National Research Council Canada SLRS-4) was diluted by half and analyzed every time samples were run. A total of 56 separate analyses yielded a concentration of 31 ± 2 nM which was within the reported uncertainty of the reference material.…”

“…Mn(II) is predominate in most situation s and it is often the most soluble chemical species of manganese and represented about 91% of the manganese (ellingSen et al 2006, pearsoN, greeNwaY 2005. Dissolved, colloidal and particulate manganese concentrations were measured in rainwater (Willey 2009). It was concluded that wet deposition is an important source of soluble, stable Mn to surface seawater.…”

“…Human populations lving near industrial facilities may be exposed to doses of manganese of up to 200 µg 24 h -1 (in air) to 12.4 mg 24 h -1 in plant foods consumed. Mn has many anthropogenic sources, including refuse incineration, iron and steel manufacturing, mining, and gasoline, coal and oil combustion (Willey et al 2009). Manganese is one of the most frequently used materials in industry, which leads to its elevated levels present in the surrounding environment.…”
