Manganese(III) Porphyrin-based Potentiometric Sensors for Diclofenac Assay in Pharmaceutical Preparations

Abstract: Two manganese(III) porphyrins: manganese(III) tetraphenylporphyrin chloride and manganese(III)-tetrakis(3-hydroxyphenyl)porphyrin chloride were tested as ionophores for the construction of new diclofenac–selective electrodes. The electroactive material was incorporated either in PVC or a sol–gel matrix. The effect of different plasticizers and additives (anionic and cationic) on the potentiometric response was studied. The best results were obtained for the PVC membrane plasticized with dioctylphtalate and hav… Show more

“…However such materials are not available in abundance, which has made the development of ISE a slightly difficult job. Nevertheless in recent years some new groups of compounds such as Schiff bases [27][28][29], porphyrins [30,31], calixaranes [32,33], macrocyclic compounds [34,35] and other group of compounds [36,37] have been developed which have a coordinating cavity and due to which they tend to show high affinity for some particular metals and poor for others. Among these groups, Schiff bases are the item of choice, because it is easy to form them with varying cavity size.…”

“…Peculiarities of these compounds are their high degree of aromaticity and their unique chemical and thermal stability. They have gained great interest in the field of material sciences, as they find multiple applications in, e.g., solar cells and optoelectronics [15][16][17][18][19], catalysis [20], sensors [21,22], and as photodynamic therapy reagents [23][24][25][26].…”
