Maneuvering Target Tracking with ESM Sensor

Abstract: This paper addresses the maneuvering target tracking with a single ESM sensor where only the bearing and elevation measurements are available and used for the target trajectory estimation. In single ESM tracking system the maneuvers of observer platform are required for the observability. The maneuver detection procedure for ESM tracking system is based on NIS. In view of the nonlinearity of the measurement equation, the two-stage extended Kalman filter (EKF) is used for target trajectory estimation. A simulat… Show more

“…An ESM sensor provides both azimuth and elevation of a target. Quan et al of [19] considered tracking a manoeuvring target with a single ESM sensor. They considered the case where the target moves in sea or Earth surface with manoeuvres not sharply.…”

“…Bearings-only measurements can be further utilized for tracking a moving target [ 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 ]. Multiple turn models, such as the Interacting Multiple Model (IMM), were utilized to track a maneuvering target based on bearings-only measurements [ 19 , 24 ].…”
