-The objective of this study was to evaluate the practice of consecutive cuts in the production and quality of Paspalum guenoarum seeds of the "Azulão" ecotype. The experimental design used was in completely randomized blocks with four replications. The treatment included three cuts in succession: zero cut, one cut, two cuts, and three cuts. The variables were: number of total tillers/plant; number of vegetative tillers/plant; number of reproductive tillers/plant; percentage of reproductive tillers; number of racemes/inflorescence; weight of thousand seeds; number of seeds/inflorescence; seed production; forage dry matter; water content of seeds; germination; first germination count; and germination speed index. The largest seed production was obtained with zero cut (850.3, first year and 719.4 kg/ha -1 , second year) and one cut (794.4, first year and 627.3 kg/ha -1 , second year) with no statistical difference between them. The largest germination percentage was seen with the application of zero (71.0%, first year and 79.3%, second year) and one cut (69.3%, first year and 75.0%, second year). There was a decrease in the production and quality of the seeds of the second cut, especially during the first year of evaluation. The total tillers, the percentage of tillers that went through the reproductive stage, and the number of reproductive tillers are the variables that are most highly correlated with seed production.

A persistência de espécies nativas forrageiras de elevado valor nutritivo é importante para as pastagens naturais do Sul do Brasil, pois constituem a principal fonte alimentar dos rebanhos. O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar a porcentagem de germinação, comprimento de parte aérea e raiz, velocidade de germinação de sementes de Pensacola e em adição, avaliar o peso de 1000 sementes de Pega-pega. As sementes de Pensacola foram submetidas a quatro tratamentos, com 4 repetições de 50 sementes, sendo DD- sementes submetidas a 12 horas de luz a 30ᵒC + 12 horas de escuro a 20ᵒC; DDF - idêntico ao DD com um acréscimo de 7 dias de frio a 10ᵒC; DO -sementes submetidas a 16 horas de escuro a 20ᵒC + 8 horas de luz a 30ᵒC; e DOF- tratamento idêntico ao DO com acréscimo de 7 dias de frio a 10ᵒC antes do tratamento, simulando situações de inverno e verão. As sementes de Pensacola obtiveram maior germinação com médias elevadas de temperatura e com mais horas diárias de luz. As sementes de Pega-pega tiveram maior germinação sem a presença do lomento. A variável dias diferiu em praticamente em todas variáveis, tanto para Pensacola quanto Pega-pega.

ResumoO objetivo da pesquisa foi verificar o efeito da classificação das cariopses, da escarificação ácida e do tratamento com nitrato de potássio na germinação das sementes de um ecótipo de Paspalum notatum Flügge da região de Guarapuava, Paraná. Adotou-se o delineamento experimental completamente casualizado em arranjo fatorial com três fatores: classe das cariopses (três classes obtidas em soprador de sementes nas aberturas quatro, cinco e seis), tempo de tratamento com ácido sulfúrico concentrado (0, 7,5 e 15 minutos) e concentração de nitrato de potássio (0 e 0,2%). Foram avaliados a germinação após 7, 14, 21 e 28 dias, o índice de velocidade de germinação e o tempo médio para germinação. A maior germinação obtida foi de 12,2% para as sementes da classe seis do soprador e escarificadas por 15 minutos. Não ocorreu germinação das sementes da classe quatro que não receberam escarificação ácida e não houve interferência do nitrato de potássio. Concluiu-se que a classificação e a escarificação ácida das cariopses favoreceram a germinação das sementes de P. notatum. Palavras-Chave: Paspalum notatum. Classificação. Escarificação ácida. AbstractThe objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of the caryopsis classification, the acid scarification and the treatment with potassium nitrate in the seed germination of a Paspalum notatum Flügge ecotype from the Guarapuava region, Paraná State. The experimental design was the completely randomized in a factorial arrangement with three factors: caryopsis classes (three classes gotten in a seed blower in openings four, five and six), sulfuric acid concentrated treatment period (0, 7.5 and 15 minutes) and potassium nitrate concentration (0 and 0.2%). The seed germination was evaluated after 7, 14, 21 and 28 days. The germination percentage, the germination speed index and the average time to germination were evaluated. The best germination obtained was 12.2% for the seeds of class six scarified for 15 minutes. Seeds from class four and not treated with sulfuric acid did not germinate. There was no interference of potassium nitrate treatment on seed germination. The classification and the acid scarification of the caryopsis were favorable to increase P. notatum seed germination.
