Mandibular implant‐supported removable partial denture with distal extension: a systematic review

Abstract: The aim of this article is to investigate patient satisfaction, survival rate of implants, and prosthetic complications or maintenance for rehabilitation with removable partial dentures associated with implants in mandibular Kennedy class I and II cases. A systematic literature review was conducted by three independent reviewers including articles published from January 1981 through September 2011. Medline and Cochrane Library electronic databases were used in addition to hand searching to assess clinical outc… Show more

“…Several prosthetic options are available to restore chewing function in patients with missing teeth (Abt et al, 2012;de Freitas et al, 2012). However, few studies (Kapur, 1991;Liedberg et al, 2004) have determined the effects of prosthetic treatment on mastication in partially edentulous patients, and their findings are controversial.…”

“…However, implant treatment with GBR imposes greater physical, mental, and financial burdens on patients because it is a surgically invasive procedure [15,16]. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the survival rate of narrow-diameter implants in the mandibular molar region.…”

“…Considering complications such as pitting corrosion of healing abutment, screw loosening and fractures, periodic recall appointments should be arranged. 7,11 At 18 months recall appointment after delivery, the wear of healing abutment was observed.…”

“…5,6 Although several retrospective ISRPD studies have shown a high survival rate of implant, some mechanical complications can occur. de Freitas et al 7 reported that ISRPD had a high success rate ranging from 95 -100% and good patient's satisfaction but showed several complications such as pitting of the healing abutment, replacement of resilient component of the attachment, damage in framework, screw loosening and damage in acrylic denture base. This clinical report describes the mechanical complication of ISRPD.…”
