Managing the Implementation of Business Intelligence Systems

Abstract: The implementation of a BI system is a complex undertaking requiring considerable resources. Yet there is a limited authoritative set of CSFs for management reference. This article represents a first step of filling in the research gap. The authors utilized the Delphi method to conduct three rounds of studies with 15 BI system experts in the domain of engineering asset management organizations. The study develops a CSFs framework that consists of seven factors and associated contextual elements crucial for BI … Show more

“…As SFs play a critical role in forming any model aimed to assess the readiness of BI systems, it is then logical to address SFs and their related issues. In this regard, some of the researchers preferred to consider CSFs in their framework as dimensions of multiple factors [22] [23], while others preferred to use the categorization of SFs to main and sub-factors [2] [16] [19]. In this study, we prefer to use the dimensions to encapsulate all related SFs under one dimension to facilitate reforming the theoretical framework.…”

“…One sign of change in the competition area is the shift of bureaucratic organization into a form of organization that is sensitive to vertical, horizontal and, external challenges and opportunities. Implementation of BI systems requires support from considerable complex resources, the success factors in the implementation of BI systems is the support and funding from the management, orientation to the user, change management, a clear vision and a clear problem, a business-oriented methodology and project management, balanced composition of the project team, flexible technical framework, good data quality and governance framework (Yeoh et al, 2008). According to Niu et al (2009), Business intelligence is a process of extracting, transformation, managing, and analyzing business data for supporting decision making.…”

“…In this context, Business Intelligence (BI) is considered as a one of the highest priority in IT investments and the second most important systems in IT field (Luftman and Kempaiah, 2008;Yeoh et al, 2008). BI technologies offer accurate and up-to-date analysis of businesses and their surrounding environment which assure their survival.…”
