Managing Academic Library Seminars

Abstract

Argues that seminars are important in individual and organizational development. Discusses the rationale for and procedure employed in the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Library series of seminars. Considers long – and short‐term planning, timing and venue, and procedures and reports. Considers that the appointment of an active and enthusiastic seminar secretary is essential.

Staff seminars and publications productivity: a study of academic librarians in Ogun State, Nigeria

The article by Nwali (1993) stands out as the only one that has specifically examined the organizational aspects of staff seminars in a Nigerian university library. It discussed the rationale for and procedure employed in the series of seminars held at the Kashim Ibrahim Library (KIL) of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria and concluded that the appointment of an active and enthusiastic seminar secretary is very essential to the continued existence and effectiveness of staff seminars in university libraries.…”
