Managing a big ground-based astronomy project: the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) project

Abstract: TMT is a big science project and its scale is greater than previous ground-based optical/infrared telescope projects. This paper will describe the ideal "linear" project and how the TMT project departs from that ideal. The paper will describe the needed adaptations to successfully manage real world complexities.
