Managers/Owners’ Innovativeness and Electronic Commerce Acceptance in Chilean SMEs: A Multi-Group Analysis Based on a Structural Equation Model

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to study differences in the adoption of e-commerce associated with the level of managers/owners' innovativeness. The background utilized to estimate the respondents' favorable reception of e-commerce is a model based on the Theory of Planned Behavior, which has been extended to include perceived drivers and obstacles as antecedents of attitude toward e-commerce acceptance. Small and medium enterprises in Chile participated in the study. A Partial Least Squares multi-group test was empl… Show more

“…This theory posits that the intention is determined by the attitude of the individual, the degree to which a person has a favorable or unfavorable assessment of the behavior in question, the subjective norm and the perceived social pressure to perform the conduct or not (Ajzen, 1991). TPB includes a third predictor of intent called perceived behavior control, which reflects an individual's perception that there are personal and situational impairments to behavior performance (Grand on and Ramirez-Correa, 2018). This theory intent is the best determinant of behavior, but attitude, subjective norm and perceived control are those that facilitate understanding of the factors that explain actions (Rao and Troshani, 2007).…”

“…The authors theorize that gender, age, experience, and degree of willingness moderate the hypothesized relationships. This unified model explained approximately 70% of the variance in behavioral intention, a value for which UTAUT has been widely used in different research related to diverse technologies and contexts [23,[30][31][32][33]. The robustness of the UTAUT model makes it a good theory to explain ERP system adoption at work, considering the personality type of users.…”

“…TPB has been previously used in literature within a Latin American context to successfully explain different usage behaviors. Some of these uses of TPB have been within the areas of education (Painén-Aravena et al, 2019), e-commerce (Grandón and Ramírez-Correa, 2018), and public health (Ramírez-Correa and Ramírez-Santana, 2018).…”
