The aim of this study was to examine the effects of E-procurement on Disaster Relief Influencing Supply Chain Performance in Relief Development and Protection Organization. Specific objectives of this study were to assess the effect of E-tendering, E-catalogues and E-sourcing on disaster relief SCP at BMF Dar es Salam. The study used quantitative research design. The study employed positivism research paradigm. Non parametric measurement was used to measure study variables. Questionnaires and documentary review were used as data collection methods. A sample of 44 staff was drawn from a targeted population of 50 staff. Data was collected using questionnaire instrument were subjected to Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS v.22) for running the quantitative analysis technique. Data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Based on objective study found that information sharing has insignificant effect while e-procurement and staff competence have significant effect on SCP. Based on the findings, the findings revealed that electronic procurement has great effect on disaster relief supply chain performance at BMF. The results revealed that BMF has procurement system that enable emergency procurement and availability of victims needs during disaster, BMF use e-tendering to enhance bulk availability of victims needs during disaster, and BMF embraced the use of procurement system in all procurement functions. Also, BMF procurement system is well integrated with supply chain systems. Finally, use e-sourcing to enable on time availability of victims needs during disaster at BMF. Multiple regression. The study came up with following recommendations; BMF should build capacity, training and development in technology (e-procurement); and policymaker should use these findings as essential tool to promote disaster relief supply chain performance in Tanzania.

PurposeThe study examined the influence of small and medium enterprise (SME) owner-managers' managerial competencies on supply chain performance, the mediation role of information quality on the SME owner-managers' managerial competencies and supply chain performance relationship, the mediating role of information quality on the information sharing and supply chain performance relationship and the mediating role of both information sharing and information quality on SME owner-managers' managerial competences and supply chain performance relationship.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from SME agro-processing firms. The determined sample size for the agro-processing firms was 200, while an effective sample size of 177 was obtained. The Covariance Structural Equation Modelling software was used to obtain results on the influence of SME owner-managers' managerial competencies on supply chain performance, the mediation role of information quality on the SME owner-managers' managerial competencies and supply chain performance relationship, the mediating role of information quality on the information sharing and supply chain performance relationship and the mediating role of both information sharing and information quality on SME owner-managers' managerial competences and supply chain performance relationship.FindingsFindings indicated that a positive significant influence of SME owner-managers' managerial competencies on supply chain performance and the presence of partial mediation effects when the mediating role of information quality in the SME owner-managers' managerial competencies and supply chain performance relationship and the information sharing and supply chain performance relationship is tested. Also, a partial mediating role of information sharing and information quality is obtained in the SME owner-managers' managerial competencies and supply chain performance relationship.Research limitations/implicationsThe study mainly focused on SME agro-processing firms eliminating other SME manufacturing firms. Also, the research employed a wholistic approach when studying the SME agro-processing firms without focusing on how SME owner-managers' managerial competencies would affect information sharing, information quality and supply chain performance based on the market type (local or foreign) and the source of raw materials (local or foreign) and the impact of information sharing on information quality hasn't been given significant attention in the existing literature.Originality/valueThe research focused on the mediation role of quality of information shared by SME owner-managers in the relationship between information sharing and supply chain performance, the mediating role of information quality in the SME owner-managers' managerial competencies and supply chain performance and the mediating role of both SME owner-manager's information sharing and quality of information shared in the relationship between SME owner-managers' managerial competences and supply chain performance. These mediation effects haven't been given significant attention in previous research. Further, while information sharing and information quality have been studied, they have been studied at a supply chain level, not at a managerial level.

Unveiling the Dynamics of Organizational Characteristics in Disaster Management: Insights from Kuwait

This study investigates the influence of specific organizational characteristics—type, location, sector, and size—on perceived disaster management competence within the unique context of Kuwait. A cross-sectional survey was conducted online and distributed via various social media platforms, resulting in the participation of 438 individuals from diverse institutions and job positions. These participants offered their perceptions of their respective organizations’ operational and supply chain practices in disaster management. This study encompasses the key phases of the disaster management cycle: mitigation; preparedness; response; and recovery. Inferential analysis, employing chi-square and One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) tests, was used to explore the relationship between these organizational characteristics and perceived operational and supply chain competence in disaster management. The findings reveal significant correlations between organizational characteristics and disaster management practices, yielding valuable insights. Notably, organization type, location, and sector significantly impacted preparedness, response, and recovery, while no significant relationships were found for mitigation. These findings contribute to the existing body of knowledge and offer practical guidance for policymakers and organizational leaders in developing disaster management strategies that account for the unique attributes of their organizations. This study emphasizes the importance of tailored disaster management strategies in Kuwait’s distinct context to enhance overall effectiveness and resilience, as perceived by organizations in Kuwait and potentially similar contexts.
