Management of the Nakdong-Jeongmaek based on the Characteristics of Cold Air - Focused on Busan, Ulsan, Pohang -

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the properties of cold air production and its flow of Nakdong-Jeongmaek(mountain ranges), and to suggest management strategies for Nakdong-Jeongmaek in order to enhance the green air conditioning functions of Jeongmaek. For this purpose, three study sites including Gudeoksan Mountain and the vicinity in Busan, Goheonsan Mountain and the vicinity in Ulsan, and Unjusan Mountain and the vicinity in Pohang were selected. The results found that cold air flow and its height of the three st… Show more

“…The KALM model calculates the evolution of the cold air flow and the height of cold air layer occurred on a clear and calm night (i.e., nocturnal drainage flow) [23]. It is specialized in analyzing the properties of cold air due to land cover and topographical characteristics [24,25]. To determine the overall wind corridors of Sejong with high rates of calm winds, KALM was selected for this study.…”

“…It is useful for analyzing cold airflows over complex topography, such as that in Korea. Therefore, the KALM model was applied to many Korean cities, such as the Pocheon area in Gyeonggi-do [31], the Nakdong Jeongmaek area [23], the part of Daegu Metropolitan City [32], etc.…”

“…The Jeongmaek is the axis of the main mountain ranges of Korea and is characterized by forming near urban areas. Therefore, in densely populated Korean urban areas with difficulty in expanding large-scale greenery [7], using Jeongmaeks with good geographical and topographical conditions has the potential to improve the urban thermal environment [23]. In plans, the local cold can be effectively utilized to draw in fresh air from the Jeongmaek to the city and induce local air circulation.…”
