Pneumatoceles, gas-filled cysts within the lung, may occur in ventilated extreme preterm infants, but rarely need intervention. 1 We present a case of an extremely preterm infant with a persistent large pneumatocele, which resulted in a management dilemma.
| CASE PRESENTATIONThis baby was born at 23 + 5 weeks gestational age to a healthy 30-year-old gravida four para one woman. Serologies were protective with no antenatal exposures. Fetal anatomy by ultrasound was normal. She presented at 23 + 0 weeks with rupture of membranes and received two doses of betamethasone.
