Management of Black Scurf of Potato with Effective Microbes (EM), Biological Potassium Fertilizer (BPF) and Trichoderma harzianum

Abstract: The efficacy of soil application with microbial preparations viz. Trichoderma harzianum, effective microbe (EM) culture and biological potassium fertilizer (BPF) was evaluated for the management of soil-borne inoculum of Rhizoctonia solani the cause of black scurf of potato cv. Desiree. Soil application with three dosages of culture suspension of T. harzianum, effective microbe (EM) culture and biological potassium fertilizer (BPF) were applied in the soil to know the efficacy of these treatments in reducing t… Show more

“…These preparations were applied in three dosages to know their efficacy in reducing the disease. This application reduces the disease significantly, contributed to better crop stand and increased yield as compared to inoculated control and rest of the treatments [35]. In another study to control black scurf of potato caused by R. solani four commercial biocontrol formulations (Bacillus subtilis GB03, Burkholderia ambifaria type Wisconsin isolate J82, T. virens Gl-21, and T. harzianum strain T-22), a chemical seed treatment (thiophanatemethyl, mancozeb, and cymoxanil mixture, TMC), and a combination chemical/biological treatment, were compared with no-pathogen and pathogen-treated controls.…”

“…The crop rotation due to limited potato growing area is not recommended as potato is playing key role in food security of Pakistan (Majeed and Muhammad, 2018). The use of resistant germplasms is the most appropriate approach to control the black scurf disease of potato (Rauf et al, 2015). The response of each cultivar is different towards the R. solani but no potato cultivar has been listed as immune (Jeger et al, 1996: Zrenner et al, 2021.…”

“…Effect of Rhizoctonia solani on biochemical attributes of different potato varieties with respect to its noninoculated control (40 DAS). affecting stem and stolons is responsible for 30-50% yield losses have been reported the oldest and wide spread diseases of potatoes around the world as well as in all potato producing agro-ecological zones of Pakistan(Carling et al, 1989: Rauf et al, 2015. The management of the disease through traditional cultural and chemical methods make it di cult due to persistent sclerotia and soil-borne nature of the pathogen (Abdel-Kader et al, 2010).Screening of ten potato varieties against R. solani was carried out in arti cially infested pot condition.…”
