Abstract: Cervical cancer screening plays a major role in preventing cervical cancer. The field is based on understanding the natural history of human papillomavirus and its role in cervical cancer. Screening has evolved to assessing the risk for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 3, a true cancer precursor, and performing diagnostic tests based on those risks.
