Mammographic Aspect, Cell Kinetics and Hormone Receptor Status of Operable Breast Cancer

Abstract: To investigate the relationships between the mammographic aspects (according to Broberg), proliferative activity and hormone receptor status, we studied 165 patients subjected to radical mastectomy for operable breast cancer. The highest percentage of estrogen receptor-positive cases was observed in mammograph class I (p < 0.02) while classes III and V were highest in progesterone receptor-positive cases. Proliferative activity (Ill cases) was significantly lower in classes I and IV with respect to all other c… Show more

“…In the present study these selection criteria have allowed for a VABB-based detection of 38% of cases with a diagnosis of tumor nodules smaller than 1 cm, a percentage higher than that reported by other authors (17 -19). Moreover, in our consecutive series we have been able to demonstrate a mammographic prevalence of well-defined nodules and parenchymal distortions in BI-RADS 3, as well as clearly predominant microcalcifications in BI-RADS 4 and a moderate presence of microcalcifications and spiculated masses in BI-RADS5, in line with the results of our previous studies (20).…”
