Este estudo teve como objetivo correlacionar os resultados dos exames bioquímicos séricos usados para avaliação hepática de papagaios verdadeiros submetidos ao exame de citopatologia por agulha fina (CAF), a fim de identificar diferenças entre os achados bioquímicos de exames citológicos normais e alterados. Amostras de citopatologia por agulha fina guiada por ultrassom foram coletadas de 20 papagaios verdadeiros, assim como amostras de sangue para a realização de exames de bioquímica sérica para avaliação da lesão e função hepática. Foram efetuadas as dosagens séricas de AST, ALT, FA, CK, GGT, PT e albumina, colesterol total e triglicérides. As amostras de CAF foram apenas classificadas em normal ou alterada. Dentre as 20 aves, 10 apresentaram CAF normal e 10 CAF com alteração citológica. Apenas a enzima AST mostrou diferença estatística entre os dois grupos (p=0,04). Os demais testes bioquímicos não apresentaram significância estatística na comparação entre os grupos. Dentre as diversas enzimas estudadas, muitas ainda apresentam poucas informações sobre seu possível valor diagnostico em aves, havendo a necessidade de mais investigações que possam elucidar a respeito dos seus potenciais valores diagnósticos na medicina aviária.
