Malignant Melanoma of the Penis

Abstract: Malignant melanoma of the penis is rare and accounts for only a small percentage of penile carcinomas. We report the largest series and the longest followup of patients with this disease. The tumor usually presents as a small, brown or black lesion, often ulcerating, on the glans penis. “…Fifty-five percent of cases of penile malignant melanoma occur in the glans penis 3 and appear in an older age population than malignant melanomas in general. 3,4 Patients with malignant melanoma of stage III or more have an extremely poor prognosis; the 5-year and 10-year survival rates of Japanese patients with stage IIIB melanoma are 40% and 38%, respectively.…”

“…Considering the rarity of the disease, aggressive treatment in selected patients with penectomy or partial penectomy of the primary tumor with bilateral lymph node dissection has been recommended. 65 Despite aggressive surgical treatment and chemotherapy, patients with metastatic disease have a poor prognosis. Patients with penile melanoma of stage III or more have an extremely poor prognosis; the 5 year and 10 year survival rates of Japanese patients with stage IIIB melanoma are 40% and 38%, respectively.…”

“…Nos inclinamos por la linfadenectomía bilateral, sin ningún otro tipo de tratamiento complementario. Los estadios II con ganglios linfá-ticos positivos y III con metástasis a distancia precisaran de otros tipos de tratamiento complementario radio, quimio o inmunoterapia según protocolos [5][6][7] .…”
