“…This case series demonstrates that plastic stent placement via PTBD may be considered a treatment option when the endoscopic approach is not feasible or has failed. 5 PTBD is mainly performed for two clinical indications: (1) before surgery to relieve biliary obstruction and subsequent cholestasis since improved survival has been documented 6,7 and (2) as a palliative procedure with the goal of decreasing the bilirubin levels to improve the patient's quality of life. 8 Compared with ERCP, the use of PTBD is advantageous because it can target a specific duct to maximize the drainage of functional parenchyma.…”
