Recent advances in acculturation research are employed as the conceptual and empirical foundation for a discussion of the human resource diversity currently experienced by the hospitality industry in the United States. Based on those theoretical underpinnings, propositions are offered that identify contributing forces behind the shift from a melting pot society to a multi-cultural society. In addition, implications for managing a multi-cultural hospitality workforce are explicated.
