This paper presents a case study highlighting the significance of adopting the ANSI/NISO Z39.87-2006 (R2017) Data Dictionary standard to small academic libraries, using Goldey-Beacom College Library in Wilmington, Delaware, as an example. The study focuses on the impact of the standard’s absence on the institution’s archival collection and emphasizes the benefits of implementing the standard for small libraries with similar digital collections. Additionally, the paper addresses the challenges faced by small libraries in adopting standards and provides recommendations for overcoming these challenges. The findings emphasize the need for increased awareness and the advantages of adopting the Data Dictionary standard to improve access and management of digital assets.

O estudo aborda a questão do valor em arquivos corporativos, definidos como unidades administrativas responsáveis pela gestão de documentos. Por sua vez, os documentos são o suporte da informação produzida no exercício das atividades corporativas. Os arquivos possuem elevado potencial de agregação de valor pela natureza das atividades intrinsecamente ligadas aos dados, informação, conhecimento e memória corporativa. O objetivo é mostrar o papel dos arquivos na cadeia de valores e deste modo, realiza pesquisa bibliográfica e documental. A pesquisa bibliográfica na base de dados Scopus recupera estudos sobre valor e arquivos, além de empregar documento produzido por autarquia federal brasileira, o Conselho Regional de Engenharia e Agronomia de Santa Catarina – CREA-SC, para análise do papel do arquivo na cadeia de valores corporativa. Os resultados mostram que embora existam estudos sobre o tema valor e arquivos, não foi discutido até o momento o papel dos arquivos na cadeia de valores corporativa. Os resultados também mostram os arquivos como parte das atividades de valor primárias de logística interna, logística externa e marketing. Recomendam-se mais estudos sobre o tema valor e arquivos e outras análises da cadeia de valores corporativas, inclusive das instituições arquivísticas.
