Maintenance of the Maxillomandibular Position with Digital Workflow in Oral Rehabilitation: A Technical Note

Abstract: Prosthodontic oral rehabilitation procedures are time consuming and require efforts to maintain the confirmed maxillomandibular relationship. Several occlusal registrations and impressions are needed, and cross-mounting is performed to transfer the diagnostic wax-up to master working casts. The introduction of a digital workflow protocol reduces steps in the required process, and occlusal registrations with less deformation are used. The outcome is a maintained maxillomandibular position that is accurately and… Show more

“…The rigidity of the digital model can avoid transmission errors caused by the variety of mandibular movements and the errors while making occlusal records in the restoration process. It can also shorten the clinical operation time and steps while improving accuracy[ 20 ]. Treatment costs are expected to decline with the continuous development of digital technology.…”

“…The introduction of new digital cross‐mounting workflows in prosthodontics highlights the need to study and validate the use of these procedures. Digital CR registration and virtual cross‐mounting workflows in fixed prosthetic cases have been reported in the literature 12,14,15 . Techniques for recording and transferring the position of the upper jaw relative to the skull to a VA have been described by other authors 16 .…”

“…In daily practice, cross‐mounting describes the interchangeable mounting on an articulator of maxillary and mandibular cast relationships 13 . Transferring the maxillo‐mandibular relationship from the patient to an articulator may lead to discrepancies 14 . The introduction of new digital cross‐mounting workflows in prosthodontics highlights the need to study and validate the use of these procedures.…”
