Main Directions of Recent Works on Al-Zn-Based Alloys for Foundry Engineering

Abstract: The composition and structural modification of high-aluminum zinc alloys and high-zinc aluminum alloys influence their wear properties and structural stability. The work described has been aimed at improving properties of the sand-cast Al-Zn-based foundry alloys, particularly their ductility and dimensional stability, by melt inoculation and/or change of chemical composition. In a series of studies, high-aluminum Zn-(25-26) wt.% Al-(1-2.5) wt.% Cu and high-zinc Al-(27-30) wt.% Zn-(1.5-2.5) wt.% Cu alloys have … Show more

“…Phases of the ε type (CuZn4)containing Cu were not found in the investigated alloy and Cu was only dissolved in eutectics. However, literature studies [18] show that as a result of long-term spontaneous aging, the ε phase is precipitated during long term ageing.…”

“…High Al-Zn-based hot-dip galvanized steel plate combines the excellent corrosion resistance of aluminum with the cathodic corrosion protection of zinc [1]. Its corrosion resistance is 2−6 times that of ordinary galvanized steel plate, and it also has excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance and adhesion.…”

“…The combined effect of the two factors will seriously shorten the service life of the roller system in the zinc pot, leading to frequent replacement of components. Normally, the replacement cycle of zinc pot equipment in high aluminum zinc production units is 7−12 days, which leads to high equipment usage costs and seriously affects production efficiency [1]. In addition, Al-Zn slag is more easily generated in high aluminum zinc pots, and the accumulation of Al-Zn slag on the surface of sinking rollers can cause serious defects such as steel strip scratches and roller marks, seriously affecting the quality of sheet products.…”

“…In addition, Al–Zn-based alloys have attracted the interest of researchers beyond their usual use as coatings. In fact, Al–Zn cast alloys have potential applications where tribological and damping properties are required [ 23 , 24 , 25 ]. In terms of entropy, our multicomponent alloy would be classified as a multi-phase MEA.…”
