Magnetotransport and de Haas–van Alphen measurements in the type-II Weyl semimetal TaIrTe4

Abstract: The layered ternary compound TaIrTe4 has been predicted to be a type-II Weyl semimetal with only four Weyl points just above the Fermi energy. Performing magnetotransport measurements on this material we find that the resistivity does not saturate for fields up to 70 T and follows a ρ ∼ B 1.5 dependence. Angular-dependent de Haas-van Alphen (dHvA) measurements reveal four distinct frequencies. Analyzing these magnetic quantum oscillations by use of density functional theory (DFT) calculations we establish that… Show more

“…Recent experimental works have successfully demonstrated the existence of 3D Dirac point in materials e.g. Na 3 Bi [5,15,16], Cd 3 As 2 [4,17,18], ZrTe 5 [19][20][21], etc, while the Weyl semimetal phase is also confirmed in materials such as TaAs [6,13,[22][23][24][25][26], NbAs [25][26][27], NbP [10,[24][25][26], TaP [24,26,28], MoTe 2 [29][30][31][32], TaIrTe 4 [33][34][35], etc.…”

“…As shown in Fig. 1b, transport study shows clear quantum oscillations and non-saturating magnetoresistance, the latter of which is suggested to be relevant with the existence of Weyl points [41,42]. More details of the synthesis, structural data and transport properties are shown in Supplementary Section S1 [43].…”
