Abstract:The linear stability of the electrically conducting liquid–liquid interface is investigated in a finite, rectangular domain inspired by the aluminum reduction cells. The interfacial instability is known to be the effect of the Lorentz force produced by the interaction of the perturbed horizontal current with the vertical magnetic field. While much of the literature points to the analysis of monochromatic perturbations, the role of the bichromatic type is investigated, for the first time. Considering a bichroma… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
