Magneto-Refractive Effect and Mechanism Analysis of Erbium-Ytterbium Co-Doped Silica Fiber

Abstract: The magneto-refractive properties of Er/Yb co-doped silica fiber (EYDF) are important in magnetic field sensing. Here, we proposed a theoretical calculation model of the EYDF using density functional theory (DFT) and demonstrated it by an interferometric digital hologram magneto-refractive measurement system. The calculation results show that the fiber material, doped with Er/Yb atoms, has a large net spin and asymmetric spin distribution, which enables the elements to play an important role in the magnetic ch… Show more

“…Ytterbium ions (Yb 3+ ) are capable of inhibiting Er 3+ clusters and reducing the quenching concentration. Referring to the sensor based on an Er/Yb Co-Doped Fiber (EYDF) proposed by Dong et al [ 108 ], Er with 0.7 wt% and Yb with 0.2 wt% were combined together to form an ASMM-doped fiber ( Figure 15 .). The proposed sensor, with a good uniformity and stability, has a sensitivity of 3.8279 × 10 −5 RIU/Oe, which is the same order of magnitude as that of MF [ 100 ].…”

“…In 2021, Y. Dong et. al [9] proposed an Er/Yb co-doped fiber (EYDF) and studied its magneto-refractive properties. The magneto-refractive sensitivity of EYDF is measured to be 3.8279×10 -5 RIU/Gs.…”
