Magneto‐Reflectivity Measurements on Exciton Bands in CuCl

Abstract: The influence of an external magnetic field on the normal incidence reflectivity of CuCl single crystals has been measured in the Voigt and Faraday configurations. The resulta ore discussed in terms of the dielectric function calculated from the reflectivity spectrum by a Kramers-Kronig transformation. In the Voigt configuration two new exciton bands can be observed, which are attributed to a triplet and a longitudinal exciton. Their energetic positions are used to determine the parameters of electron-hole exc… Show more

“…(3), we calculate the Rabi splitting energies of 3 and 1,2 using the values of LT : 5.7 meV for the Z 3 exciton 16 and 18 meV for the Z 1,2 exciton. 22 The solid(dashed) curve in Fig. 3 indicates the calculated active-layer-thickness dependence of 3 ( 1,2 ).…”

“…The energies of the transverse F4 states have already been summarized in Table 5. The dipole forbidden T2 state in CuCl has been identified by Nikitine et al [79] with an emission line observed a t Results for the parameters of spin-orbit splitting and exchange splitting derived from this experiment [50] are summarized in Tables 7 and 8. Similar results, also included in Table 8 The longitudinal states may be excited easily by two-photon absorption experiments.…”

“…One finds, indeed, relevant differences in e.g. the values for oscillator strengths [47, 481 and linewidths [49,50] of Z,, or 2, between data obtained from absorption or reflectivity measurements. The reasons for these discrepancies are not yet clear a t present.…”

“…In the usual approximation, the Frohlich interaction is diagonal with respect t o the different valence and conduction bands and interseries scattering from Z1,2 t o Z, therefore impossible. The Z,-and Zl,2-exciton series are however mixed due to exchange interaction [17] and nondiagonal terms of the effective hole mass [ 181. Besides this, the Frohlich interaction contains in addition nondiagonal parts which allow interseries scattering of excitons [ 191.…”
