Iron oxide copper-gold (IOCG) and associated iron-oxide apatite (IOA) styles of metallic mineralization are recognized throughout the Paleoproterozoic Great Bear magmatic zone of the northwest Canadian Shield. The Great Bear magmatic zone was constructed between ca. 1876 and 1855 Ma on top of the older Hottah terrane, which preserves continental arc magmatism that began around ca. 2.0 to 1.97 Ga and continued between ca. 1.93 and 1.89 Ga. The Great Bear represents the final stages of ca. 150 million years of intermittent and pulsed magmatism related to an evolving continental orogenic belt. The preserved geology supports a dramatic geodynamic change in the subduction zone process at ca. 1875 Ma, a key driving mechanism for magma and metal mobilization, and was rapidly followed by a large-scale introduction of felsic-intermediate plutons. The overall tectonic setting is partially constrained from new and previously published geochemical data that show that the volcanic and plutonic rocks are high-K calc-alkaline to shoshonitic in nature (e.g., high K 2 O, Th/Yb, and Ce/P 2 0 5 ). They also have suprasubduction-zone geochemical signatures, including primitive mantle normalized positive Th and negative Nb, P, and Ti anomalies. The data support the primary melts were derived from a GLOSS-modified mantle wedge. Three-dimensional rendering of geophysical datasets suggest that two (of four) preserved surfaces within the upper mantle lithosphere, at 70 to 120 km depths, represent frozen, subducted oceanic slabs, and likely were the drivers for the bulk of Hottah and Great Bear arc magmatism. The older slab is northwest-striking and dips 12⁰ to 15⁰ northeast, whereas the younger is deeper and north-striking, dipping 13⁰ east. The geometry of the surfaces are comparable with 4D modeling, where a subduction zone is temporarily shut down due to plateau collision, and then steps oceanward and re-initiates; there is no need for polarity reversal of the subduction system. This new geometry and the related inferences about process should be the focus of future research in the region, but for the time-being it can be stated that these subduction and collisional processes were the first order control on lithospheric evolution, and therefore metallic mineralization. Overall, the Great Bear magmatic zone IOCG and related mineralization is not comparable to other Proterozoic IOCG belts, such as those in Australia. However, the complexity of mineralization styles, the spatial-temporal relationship between IOA and IOCG mineralization, the suprasubduction zone environment, and a major change in tectonic regime are features similar to Andean-type IOCG mineralization, as well as Cordilleran alkali porphyry Cu-A C C E P T E D M A N U S C R I P T ACCEPTED MANUSCRIPT3 Au deposits. This further establishes the linkages between subduction zone processes and IOCG formation, as well as relationships in the IOCG-porphyry deposit continuum model.

IllUne fois le magma saturé en ces éléments, la cristallisation de la magnetite est favorisée suite à une augmentation de JO2 dans le système. Ces conditions d'oxydation sont favorisées à la fois par le processus de cristallisation fractionnée et par la présence de fluides. Ces derniers sont de nature météorique (5 18 O varie entre -2 et 1.8 %o) dans le cas de l'intrusion de Sept-îles et métamorphiques dans le cas de Duluth (Ô 18 O varie entre 3.908 et 6.044 %o pour les OUI et entre 7.534 et 12.935 %o dans le cas des sédiments). L'oxydation provoque la conversion de Fe 2+ en Fe 3+ et par conséquent la formation de la magnetite. L'accumulation de cette dernière provoque un appauvrissement du liquide en Fe favorisant par la suite une saturation du magma en P. Une telle saturation déclenche la cristallisation de l'apatite et donne ainsi naissance à des nelsonites et à des gabbro-nelsonites dans le cas de Sept-îles et à des roches riches en apatite à Duluth.Les valeurs de température et de JO2 ont été calculées pour les paires de titanomagnétite et d'ilménite qui coexistent en utilisant le programme QUILF. Les données définissent une trajectoire qui s'étend du tampon FMQ à haute température au tampon IM à basse température. L'intervalle de température s'étale entre 500 et 862 °C et celui de la fugacité d'oxygène (log_/D2) entre -17 et -25. Une telle tendance est typique aux intrusions mafiques ignées.Dans le cas de Sept-îles, les oxydes sont accumulés en formant des lits riches en oxydes. Dans le cas de Duluth, les lits riche en oxydes sont formés aussi dans la partie supérieure de l'intrusion, toutefois, dans certains cas les oxydes s'infiltrent dans l'encaissant troctolitque par le biais des failles et forme ainsi les OUIs, ou bien certains lits de magnétitite de la partie supérieure de l'intrusion sont injectés dans les troctolites sousjacents suite à une instabilité gravitationnelle.La composition des phases oxyde (ilménite, magnetite) a été modifiée considérablement au cours du refroidissement de l'intrusion en raison de réactions d'échanges intracristallins et intercristallins. Au cours du refroidissement des deux intrusions, l'oxydation a entraîné la formation des exsolutions d'ilménite de la solution solide de titanomagnétite pour former soit des lamelles distinctes d'ilménite dans la magnetite, soit des exsolutions granulaires d'ilménite autour de grains de magnetite.Les sulfures disséminés sont associés aux oxydes dans les deux intrusions. Les phases sulfurées sont essentiellement la pyrite et la bornite dans le cas de Sept-îles et la chalcopyrite, la cubanite et la pyrrhotite dans le cas des de Duluth. Ces sulfures occupent les interstices des phases oxydes ainsi que les zones d'altérations. L'investigation géochimique suggère que les phases oxydes ne concentrent pas les IEGP. Des diagrammes de corrélation montrent que les PGE sont contrôlés par les phases sulfurées.
