Magnetic, thermal and spectroscopic properties of 5-chloro-2-methoxybenzoates of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II)

Abstract: The 5-chloro-2-methoxybenzoates of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) were synthesized as solids and their magnetic, spectral and thermal properties studied. The complexes possess colours typical of the M(II) ions. The thermal stabilities were examined in air and nitrogen atmospheres and the products of decompositions were also identified. The magnetic susceptibilities of the complexes were measured over the temperature range 4.4?300 K and the magnetic moments were calculated. The results show that the … Show more

“…3-Chloro-2-nitrobenzoates of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) were obtained as polycrystalline solids with a metal ion to ligand mole ratio of 1 : 2 and a general formula M(C 7 H 3 O 4 NCl) 2 · nH 2 O (where M = Co, Ni, Cu and n = 2 for Co and Ni, and n = 1 for Cu), and colours: pink for Co(II), green for Ni(II) and blue for Cu(II) complexes ( Table 1). 11 Ecl. Quím., São Paulo, 31 (4) Some of the results of IR spectra analysis are in Table 2.…”

“…The measurements were made at a magnetic field strength of 9.9 kQe. The calibrant employed was Hg[Co(SCN) 4 ] for which the magnetic susceptibility of 1.644×10 -5 cm 3 g -1 was taken and then the effective magnetic moment values were calculated for 5-chloro-2-methoxybenzoates of Mn(II), Co(II) and Ni(II). Correction for diamagnetism of the constituent atoms was calculated by the use of Pascal¢s constants [8].…”
