Magnetic sublevel partial differential cross sections for electron impact excitation of the Ba(...6s6p 61P1) level

Y Li1,
et al.

Abstract: Magnetic sublevel partial differential cross sections for excitation of the Ba(. . .6s6p 6'P, ) level are presented based upon the differential cross section measurements of lensen etaland Wang et a/ in combination with new electron impact coherence parameter measurement8 and electron impact coherence parameter measurements previously reported by Zetner and Li. These partial diflerential cross sections, determined for electron impact energies of Eo= IO, 20, 37, 50 and 80 eV, are compared with available theory.

“…Our measured P + lin and γ data are tabulated in table 1 and plotted with available theory in figures 2 and 3. A less extensive set of the 10 eV data was previously converted into a set of lambda parameters and has been published by Li et al (1994c). In figures 4 and 5, we present graphical comparisons between theory and the measured Stokes parameters, P 1 and P 2 , extracted from our measurements of P + lin and γ using equation ( 1).…”

“…There have been relatively little experimental studies of electron scattering from excited state ytterbium. Earlier work from our lab has presented laser polarization dependence [2] and differential cross sections [3] of superelastic scattering from laser-excited ytterbium.…”

“…The partial differential cross section (PDCS) is defined to characterize scattering from a target prepared in an anisotropic P state by laser pumping. The PDCS is introduced in [3], and is derived in detail in [11]. EICP are introduced in [12].…”
