“…17,18 Two experienced readers registered and segmented the images using CASCADE, a custom designed analysis software. 19 Lumen and outer wall boundaries were outlined for each image slice, measuring the resulting lumen, outer wall, and total vessel areas. If detected, lipid-rich necrotic core and calcification boundaries were also outlined following histology-validated imaging criteria 11 and their percentage of the wall was computed (%LRNC and %CA, respectively).…”

“…A custom-designed image analysis software (CASCADE) (20) was used to outline the lumen area (LA) and total vessel area (TVA) as well as plaque components. Wall area (WA ¼ TVA -LA), normalized wall index (NWI ¼ WA/TVA), mean wall thickness (MWT), and maximal wall thickness (MaxWT) measures were derived from the LA and TVA outlines.…”

“…Only consecutive images of an artery with ImQ Ն2 were interpreted. Image-analysis software (CASCADE, 13 Seattle, Washington) was used to draw the lumen and outer wall boundaries. Lumen volume, wall volume, and total vessel volume (lumen volume ϩ wall volume) were used to calculate percentage wall volume (wall volume/total vessel volume ϫ 100%), a measure of plaque burden similar to that proposed by Nissen et al 14 during imaging investigations of the coronary arteries.…”
