Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography (Mrcp) Versus Endosonography-Guided Fine Needle Aspiration (Eus-Fna) for Diagnosis and Follow-Up of Pancreatic Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasms

Abstract: Background:Intraductal papillary mucinous tumor (IPMN) are being diagnosed with increasing frequency. Computerized tomography scanning is commonly used as the primary imaging modality before surgery nonetheless magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) provides better characterization. Endosonography-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) has emerged as a way to reach pathological diagnose. Aim:To compare results of both methods with surgical pathology findings for classification of IPMN. Methods:Thi… Show more

“…NETs <1 cm are resected by endoscopy, with endoscopic follow-up every six or 12 months. Many studies have shown that the successful removal of small NETg with mucosectomy does not have a frequent recurrence in long-term follow-up 10,26,28,31 .…”

“…A punção com análise do líquido aspirado durante o exame de EE tem sido sugerida por alguns como importante arma para melhorar o diagnóstico em casos duvidosos de cistos de pâncreas 4,7,12 . A despeito disso, a maioria dos guidelines recomenda a EE apenas como exame adjuvante à tomografia computadorizada e, preferencialmente, à ressonância magnética 15,16 .…”

“…Puncture with analysis of the aspirated liquid during EUS has been suggested by some as an important tool to improve the diagnosis in doubtful cases of pancreas cysts 4 , 7 , 12 . Despite this, most guidelines only recommend EUS as an adjunct to computed tomography and, preferably, to MRI 15 , 16 .…”
