Magnetic resonance angiography of fetal vasculature at 3.0 T

Abstract: Magnetic resonance angiography has not been used much previously for visualizing fetal vessels in utero for reasons that include a contraindication for the use of exogenous contrast agents, maternal respiratory motion and fetal motion. In this work, we report the feasibility of using an appropriately modified clinical time-of-flight magnetic resonance imaging sequence for non-contrast angiography of human fetal and placental vessels at 3.0 T. Using this 2D angiography technique, it is possible to visualize fet… Show more

“…As part of a larger study, ng‐PCMRI data were acquired whenever possible. The umbilical vessels were first localized using a noncontrast, nonbreath‐hold time‐of‐flight MRA sequence . Once the umbilical cord was localized, nontriggered phase contrast images using the modified sequence were acquired using the following parameters: repetition time (TR) of 14 msec, echo time (TE) of 7–9 msec, slice thickness of 3/4 mm, voxel size between (0.5–0.8) × (0.5–0.8) mm 2 , and flip angle of 15°.…”

“…Researchers have recognized the serious outcomes of abnormalities in the fetal venous system, but research in this area has to date been limited to a description of the imaging features in individual cases, and no general pattern of the fetal cranial venous system has been established. Accordingly, there is an increasingly urgent need for standardizing MRI data (6,7).…”

“…Wong et al studied 966 singleton babies to develop a nomogram for the fetal pulmonary artery to aortic diameter ratio (18). Ruano et al, constructed nomogram of main pulmonary artery, right and left pulmonary artery in 220 fetuses between the GA of 19 and 40 weeks (19).…”
