Magnetic properties of spacer-armed dinuclear copper(II) complexes

Abstract: The results of static magnetic susceptibility studies of spacer armed dinuclear copper(II) com plexes with dicarboxylic acid acylhydrazones are described. Weak exchange coupling between paramagnetic centers has been detected with an exchange parameter value of -2J ~ 1-7 cm -1 . Short intermolecular con tacts give rise to additional weak antiferromagnetic exchange coupling between copper cations comparable in terms of energy with superexchange inside the dinuclear complex (-zJ' ~ 0.6-5.0 cm -1 ).

“…At the same time, a lot of dinuclear copper complexes with strongly space-separated (6-10 Å) copper(II) ions [19][20][21][22][23][24][25] possess a very weak ferro-/antiferomagnetic character due to the very weak exchange between the magnetic SOMOs. These systems are interesting from a fundamental point of view since the nature of weak exchange interactions is a key topic of modern molecular spintronics [25].…”

“…In the earlier studies of spacered binuclear cop per(II) complexes by the static magnetic susceptibility technique, weak intramolecular exchange interactions comparable in energy with intermolecular interac tions, were detected [20,21]. Magnetochemical inves tigation of complexes I and III lead to a similar result.…”
