Magnetic Properties of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles Do Not Essentially Contribute to Ferrogel Biocompatibility

Abstract: Two series of composite polyacrylamide (PAAm) gels with embedded superparamagnetic Fe2O3 or diamagnetic Al2O3 nanoparticles were synthesized, aiming to study the direct contribution of the magnetic interactions to the ferrogel biocompatibility. The proliferative activity was estimated for the case of human dermal fibroblast culture grown onto the surfaces of these types of substrates. Spherical non-agglomerated nanoparticles (NPs) of 20–40 nm in diameter were prepared by laser target evaporation (LTE) electrop… Show more

“…The effectiveness of IONP cell absorption and internalization is a precondition for enhanced medication administration, enhanced diagnostic efficiency, and other usages of IONPs. When nanoparticles are incubated in a cell culture environment, it is possible that they could change the pattern of cell attachment, which will have consequences for the cell’s shape and cytoskeleton and its multiplication, differentiation, motility, and longevity ( Figure 4 ) [ 120 , 121 , 122 ].…”

“… Fibroblasts were cultured on the surface of gel-based substrate ( a ), with 1.2% Al 2 O 3 ( b ), and with 1.2% Fe 2 O 3 NPs ( c ). Cell nuclei and the cytoplasm were stained with DAPI and pyrazolone yellow, respectively [ 122 ]. …”

“…Polymer hydrogels demonstrate highly responsive properties to various stimuli including temperature, pH-, magnetic field, and so on [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]. Of particular interest are magnetic-field-sensitive hydrogels (so-called ferrogels) [ 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 ], since they demonstrate rapid response to the stimulus and remote-control ability [ 11 , 12 ]. To provide magnetic-field responsiveness, magnetic particles like magnetite Fe 3 O 4 [ 13 ], maghemite γ-Fe 2 O 3 , or cobalt ferrite CoFe 2 O 4 [ 11 , 14 , 15 ] should be incorporated into the gel matrix.…”

“…In addition, the assessment of post-harvest parameters related to the processing and storage of the plant is also considered important (e.g., drying method, grinding, extraction method, solvent effect, extraction time and extraction temperature) [ 7 , 8 , 41 , 42 ]. According to some studies, drying temperature, grinding time and solvent type have a direct correlation with the phenolic compound extracted [ 8 , 43 ]. Various solvent systems were used to extract phenolic compounds from plants [ 44 ].…”
