Abstract:A Green's function technique is used to calculate the properties of antiferromagnetic thin films. The layer magnetizations and the parallel layer susceptibilities at low temperatures are discussed. The second-layer magnetization and second-layer parallel susceptibility are smaller than the surface ones. This anomaly has no counterpart in ferromagnetic thin films and is interpreted as an effect of the inhomogeneous thermal fluctuations, enhanced by quantum fluctuations.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
